MDP Press Release

"Government must respect autopsy arrangements made by Hussein Salah's family" say MDP

17 April 2007

The MDP demands that the government respect the arrangements made by the family of Hussein Salah to conduct an autopsy to investigate the cause of his death.

The police have announced that an autopsy will be undertaken tomorrow [Wednesday] by a pathologist brought from Sri Lanka by the government. This is contrary to the family's wishes. They are arranging for their own pathologist as they do not believe that anyone arranged by the government will be independent or trustworthy.

The family have requested that the government do not conduct the autopsy with their own pathologist. This request has been ignored.

The police have stated that the autopsy may be observed, but only by a qualified pathologist registered with the government by 11pm tonight. The impossibility of meeting this deadline means that there will be no independent observation of the autopsy carried out by the government-arranged pathologist tomorrow.
