Quote of the Day
"The truth is the greatest enemy of the State"
"If you tell a lie
big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually
come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for
such time as the State can shield the people from the
political, economic and/or military consequences of the
lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to
use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth
is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension,
the truth is the greatest enemy of the State."
Joseph Goebbels, German Minister of Propaganda,
1933-1945

One of the latest of injustices from Khadheeja Hassan
came when she decided to part ways with her business
partner with a few of the company’s assets including the
profitable Ranveli Village & Spa resort. Before we go
into details of the Guardian Agency affair, we should
note that Khadheeja was a partner of the company for the
better part of the last ten years. She was invited to
join the board and be an equal partner based on private
agreements between Guardian’s owner Mohamed Naeem (Monaza)
whom she was married to until recently.

During the coup
attempt of November 3rd 1988, Khadheeja came to the
rescue of the Presidential family. Her services this
time would guarantee her place in the higher ranks of
the Maldivian ruling elite securing her future forever
with this government. Khadheeja provided shelter at her
own then private residence of M. Gulisthaanuge to the
president and his family on that fateful day.
Presidential duties on that day were carried out from
her house. Khadheeja still boastfully displays an
antique chair to anybody who will listen, saying “this
is the chair that controlled this country when hope was
so little”.

Historical
judgement in UK as a foreign national awaits sentence
for torture!
There has been
speculation that infamous Adam Zahir will face similar
charges in the UK. According to spokesman for the UK
Friends of Maldives/Maldives Aid- there have been
discussions with leading human rights lawyers in the UK
and a dossier of testimonies of torture by several
individuals is being compiled. The decision whether to
prosecute Adam Zahir will rest with the Attorney
General, Lord Goldsmith who has stated "An international
convention and English law allow the trial in England of
anyone who has committed torture or hostage-taking".

Who is Ms. Khadheeja Hassan? Most of us know her as the
Senior Executive Director of the Maldives Monetary
Authority (MMA). She started her career at Crescent
Tourist Agency (C.T.A - No longer in business, was owned
by former president Nasir) doing clerical work. From
there she moved to State Bank of India as a clerk. After
the Central Bank of the Maldives was created by
President Gayyoom, she was given a job at the MMA. Thus
her beginnings with the current government and her climb
to be one of the prime movers of Maldivian banking.

What
can a new cabinet do if Gayyoom is not willing to
change?
Gayyoom has said good bye to some of his oldest friends
who have together enjoyed the riches of Maldives without
any consideration for the fate of the people of
Maldives. People like his brother Hameed and his best
friend Fathuhulla Jameel have been living like Kings
because they knew that nor matter what they did, their
jobs were secure and they thought that Gayyoom could not
survive without them.

As the

Dr. Waheed is prepared to
lead the people of Maldives!
DO : Do you believe party
system is the answer to the current political crisis?
Dr. Waheed : I believe that the time for
democracy is long over due. There cannot be a democracy
without political parties. The apologists for dictators
always give excuses why people are never ready for
democracy. They underestimate the power of the human
mind. They reduce their people to sub human levels.

Analysis of The Recent Cabinet Reshuffle!
The first thing I noticed about
the recent cabinet reshuffle was the wrong statistics
that were reported by the local media. Some of the
newspapers reported that nine new ministers were
appointed in the recent reshuffle. I noticed that
Abdullah Shahid, who was until recently the Executive
Secretary to the President, is the tenth new minister.
He wasn’t of course appointed as a cabinet minister, but
nevertheless he is now the Minister of State for Foreign
Affairs.

Assembly votes for Gayyoom as Leader!
An
assembly of Dhivehi Rundinge Party (DRP) was held in
Dharubaaruge tonight in which Gayyoom was elected leader
of the party by 1245 votes. No further details as to how
many people attended the assembly has emerged as yet but
based of our experiences of the past 27 years, it is
safe to assume that he got 100% of the votes and no one
dared to vote against him fearing certain torture and
even death. In tonights assembly a Women's Council was
als formed and Hathihaa Haalaa, Yumna and the one and
only Azima Shukoor are the leading people in the
council. Gayyoom's close allies say that his party has
27,000 members now which is astonishing as the leader is
elected with just 1245 votes.
