TV station in Dhidhdhoo defaced by oil
Dhidhdhoo - A new TV station, part of TVM, was attacked by some residents of Dhidhdhoo yesterday with dirty lubricating oil, locals confirm. It is unknow why the residents decided to take this action but some say that it is due to a rift between the two island chiefs, in which case, it is the result of the usual divide and rule of Golhaabo. "We are not sure why this station is being opened here, we don't want Golhaabo's propaganda to emerge from our island, maybe that is one reason why the place was defaced with oil," said a resident of Dhidhdhoo.

Golhaabo planning a visit to Addu next month

Male' - There are reports emerging from within Gayyoom's top ranks that he is planning a visit to Addu in the first week of February. "These reports are spreading in Addu as well and we are told that he will be visiting on the 5th," a source from Addu said. Golhaabo has made several plans to visit Addu in the past 2 years but had always backed out at the last minute fearing a protest from the Addu people, home to some of the most prominent pro-democracy activist and the largest membership of Maldivian Democratic Party, outside the capital. "We are always prepared to welcome him with a huge protest, even if we get 30 minute notice we will stage a protest and call for his resignation," said Abdulla from Hithadhoo.

Ahmed Mujuthaba: a serial quitter for political gain and favour

The best description of Ahmed Mujuthaba, former Maldives minister, who later headed the country's first human rights commission, is that he is a serial quitter. His recent speech at a function to honour a visiting British MP underlines this description. In most parts of the speech he addressed facts that that raised the pulse of most Maldivians impatient for reform. But wait! True to form, in the punch-line of his speech, he chose to quit again. more

Young boy killed in freak accident but driver not held responsible
Gemanafushi - A young boy, with a face of an angel, died recently in Ga. Gemanafushi after he was run over by a pickup, driven by a leading DRP family member of the island, reports say. We have a complete set of photographs, showing the extent of injuries the little boy sustained in the accident, which eyewitnesses confirm was due to driver's recklessness. "The driver is renowned for reckless driving and he is not held responsible for this horrible crime either because he comes from a family that supports Gayyoom, how horrible is that?" said a man from the island. The complete set of photographs sent to DO from the island show that the boy sustained terrible head, neck and back injuries, which killed him instantly. The photographs are too distressing to be published. DO will investigate this matter further and report details as soon as possible. May Allah bless his soul and give his family the strength and courage to get through this.

The Dream

By the strength of our common endeavour, to achieve what we cannot do alone, to grant each of us the power to realize our full potential, and the means to create for this and future generations a community in which power, wealth and opportunity are in the hands of the many not the few, where the respect we receive reflect the duties we owe, so that freed from the tyranny of poverty, ignorance and fear, we could live together in spirit of solidarity tolerance and respect.
