Government Staff not paid in full

Addu Atoll - According to sources in Addu Atoll, several government staff were not paid in full last month. People were only paid the basic salary; all other salary increments such as Overtime and salary increases were withheld.

Unpaid staff includes S. Feydhoo School staff as well as Gan Security Guards. Locals are scared to even mention this for fear of being jailed and tortured.

This perhaps explains speculations that large sums from the national reserve have been looted by Gayyoom for his plan to flee the Maldives. As must as 25 million dollars could have been moved out of the country according our sources in Maldives Monetary Authority. DO will conduct a survey and report this matter in details.

Hon. Qasim Ibrahim

Hon. Qasim Ibrahim discharged from the hospital and transferred to solitary confinement
Male' - 12:39 Local Time - Conformed reports say that Hon. Qasim Ibrahim who has been in hospital since 24th September has been transferred to jail today. According to sources in Presidents' Office, Gayyoom personally ordered him to be transferred to jail despite his health situation because Gayyoom is paranoid and feels that people might try to hold a demonstration to oust him.

'State of Emergency' to be repealed this week
According to reliable sources within the top ranks in the government, the 'State of Emergency' which was imposed on 13th August 2004 in an attempt to crackdown on the pro democracy demonstration is to be lifted this week.
Gayyoom is under increasing pressure to show the world that he means 'well'. All the spinning by him and his cronies appears to be going nowhere. The United Nations is now pressuring him to 'calm down' in addition to the pressure from the European Union, according our sources.
Yameen, Abdulla Shahid and Adam Zahir are apparently not very happy about the lifting of the 'State of Emergency' because they are not going to be able to do things behind Gayyoom's back. It now appears that Gayyoom had no powers on 13th August and the whole game was played by Yameen, Shahid and Adam Zahir with the blessings of Fathulla Jameel.
The general public now hate Gayyoom and that is exactly what Yameen wants. People are expected to regroup and start demonstrations as soon as the 'State of Emergency' is lifted. The 12th October Special Majlis session is going to a decisive date.

Gayyoom to bribe Parliament Members 'everyone will get an official car like Ministers'
Gayyoom is planning to give each Member of the Parliament an official car like the ministers and others who he approves of. Male' Atoll Member Don Adam Fulhu is expected to propose this in the Parliament with the blessings of Gayyoom. Don Adam Fulhu is the brother of Chief of Staff Mohamed Zahir (22) and is known to be a puppet of Gayyoom. read more

Yameen tells Maldivians not to read Dhivehi Observer

Yameen is a very obedient brother but not a good leader

Male' - Gayyoom's mighty brother, Abdulla Yameen, the Trade Minister, who lives in Galolhu ward of Male' met with senior people of the area last night and told them that Dhivehi Observer is anti-government and is spreading lies. He then went on to tell them not to read the site.  The site is blocked by Maldivian Government, still people access it because they are fed with lies and propaganda all the time.
Gayyoom's government does not allow any form on criticism to his rule. Rated amongst the most oppressive regimes of the 21st Century, Gayyoom has lost touch with the common man. He lies constantly but his lies are a 'blessing' for the people according to puppets like Yameen.
Time is ever so close to the demise of this regime, the most horrible in the history of Maldives. Gayyoom and his family are just a few weeks away from being thrown out by the people of Maldives. The international community no longer listens to the lies and propaganda of Gayyoom's government.
If Yameen wants to be the President of the Maldives, he should start acting like one, like a people's person, not oppress them and brainwash them. We certainly do not want another Dictator after Gayyoom.

Is Gayyoom a billionaire?

Gayyoom's cousin Kaamineegey Zahid (Six-X Music Shop owner, former 20th Century BC lead guitarist) has been rushed on a charter flight to Colombo for medical treatment today. Unconfirmed reports say that he is suffering from a brain haemorrhage. Notwithstanding our deepest shock for the direct family of Mr. Zahid, his sons and daughters, what we are highlighting here is the total misuse of public funds by Gayyoom. We hope that Zahid will recover fully in the shortest time possible. Many Maldivians like Zahid, who are unfortunately not related to Gayyoom's family pay the ultimate price when they are struck with a misfortune as this. Many Maldivian women have died during delivery because adequate medical facilities were not available in the island or in the Atoll. People have travelled for more than 24 hours in their small boats trying to get to Male' for delivery and many sadly pass away during the journey. No Maldivian can say that this is simple not true! Not even Gayyoom. He knows that this is the Simple Truth. read more

Police raid Paradise Island Resort

Gayyoom security forces raided Paradise Island today. Gayyoom is desperate to charge Qasim with treason according to inside information and they are trying to find anything that may lead to conviction. Many locals believe that Gayyoom will plot a 'scam' and charge him with treason. Guests on these islands apparently now know that the owner of the island is in solitary confinement and furthermore they have also seen the many news articles around the world about the brutal regime of Gayyoom. Police turn up at these resorts in plain clothes and begin searching the whole place without a warrant. State of Emergency declared in Male' and nearby islands.

How many Maldivians live like this?
Abbas lives with his 2 wives and 6 children in 7 by 10 ft room

When we went to Henvairu ward Filikuri House and entered the room where Abaas Hassan lives, the place could only be described as a refugee camp. Plywood beds were stacked up. There were four beds in the room. Those are for his 6 children and 2 wives. The room does not even have a door. When they want to sleep they just draw the curtain. The even cook and eat in this space. As you enter the room, the kitchen is in one corner. In this 2ft by 2ft kitchen there was a cooker and some utensils. The room did not even have any specific space for clothes and toiletries. The floor also was bare sand, there wasn't any flooring. When they want to pray, they just throw a mat on the sand floor. The room is not adequate for a family to live in terms of hygiene wise as well as from a social angle. However, in this 7 ft by 10ft room, Abbas and his 6 children and 2 wives some how managed to live. read more

Is General Gayyoom still the commander in chief?

 Breaking News

Gayyoom going back to Maldives tonight

Singapore - The speculation about Gayyoom's resignation sparked off some thoughts in Maldives. His own media reported through Dr. Shaheed, the government spokesman that Gayyoom has not resigned and that he is undergoing medical check ups in Singapore.

Gayyoom apparently cut short his medication and is flying back to the Maldives tonight. Members of the public are concerned about the state of the affairs in the government. There are reports of splits and people in high ranked position have even today confirmed that the speculation about Gayyoom's resignation was credible.

According to sources close to Gayyoom, his relationship with Koli Ali Manik has also deteriorated. The elite business group in Maldives are no longer backing Gayyoom and he had earlier planned to resign in November this year according to the same source. He is desperate to leave a commendable legacy even after all the cruelty and torture he subjected to his people. "There is a power struggle in the families" said our source today.

Public is expected to greet him on arrival unless the riot police makes a formidable appearance in Hulhule Airport Island. Their presence in Male' has been sustained well since Black Friday.

Hamdoon Hameed - Minister of Planning - Gayyoom's nephew

Money is being transferred to Singapore

Male' - Informants in MMA say that large sums of money are being transferred to Singapore. Furthermore, Gayyoom and family has applied to become permanent residents of Singapore. Madam Nasreena took her grandchildren out of Schools in Male' and flew to Singapore with them.

In addition to the cabinet meeting yesterday, there was also a meeting of high ranking officials in the Police and the Military.

All the signs are that something quite extraordinary is going on. The country is under Emergency Rule and Gayyoom has been out of the country for more than a week now. It is reported that Adam Zahir is running the show in Police whilst all government operations are directed by Hamdoon Hameed.

DO feels that it is important to alert the public of these news. We are unable to confirm these news but it is vital that the public remains prepared for any change. Those with contacts in high offices and in MMA should try and get these facts.

Ibrahim IsmailHon. Ibrahim Ismail, a serious challenger to Mr. Gayoom
Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Councillor and Member of the Special Majlis, Hon. Ibrahim Ismail, reportedly met his wife in Dhoonidhoo interrogation centre on 28th September 2004, the 47th day of his incarceration in solitary confinement. Hon. Ismail is physically disabled (poliomyelitis) and doctors fear that he might not be able to use his already handicapped physique.
Hon. Ibrahim Ismail was taken in after the brutal break-up of the pro-democracy rally in Male on 12th and 13th of August 2004. Human Rights groups including the Maldive Governments own Human Rights Commission and international bodies as Amnesty International have detailed the inhuman methods and ways of the regime in the Maldives not only after the crack down and the subsequent mass arrests on 13th August 2004, but through out Mr. Gayooms reign in power. read more

Emergency Cabinet Meeting Underway in Male'

Reports are coming in from Male' that an emergency cabinet meeting is underway in President's Office. Political analysts report that Gayyoom has already resigned and the cabinet is meeting to elect a temporary leader. Hamdhoon Hameed appears to be the emerging winner. However, according to the constitution, the Speaker of the Majlis, Ahmed Zahir will take over and the responsibility will generally lie with the Parliament if President resigns.

Gayyoom has been in Singapore since 21st September. It is reported that his family is also with him along with his grandchildren. Speculation has been mounting that Gayyoom does not want to return to the Maldives mainly because Madam Nasreena has had enough.

Time to save the Dhivehi people

Dictators love darkness. They want to hide prisoners and do things under the cover of darkness.  What President Gayyoom is showing us with all the machine guns and the NSS is that he is ready to shoot his own people and destroy his own country.   What kind of human being is he? He doesn’t have a heart.  He is ready to kill Dhivehi people to keep his fancy way of life.  read more

Sunland Nazeer arrested today

Male' - Mr. Nazeer, famously known as Sunland Nazeer, was arrested this afternoon. Police raided his office Sunland Travels as well as his home. Mr. Nazeer is one of the 3 brothers who own the leading tour operators Sun Land Travels. Sunland Group also owns and operates some of the most exclusive resorts in the Maldives such as Coco Palm Spa Resort.
Political analysts believe that Mr. Nazeer's arrest is related to the continued detention of his long-term friends, Ibrahim Hussain Zaki and Dr. Munavvar.

Directors of some of the biggest companies in Maldives are now behind bars such as Qasim Ibrahim, owner of Villa Group as well Ali Shiyam, Director of AAA Group.

key reformists who was detained on 13th August (Black Friday), Mr. Abdul Jaleel (popularly known as Abujee) was brought to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) today. He was brought in for a scan and to get some medication.

Abujee has been a strong supporter of democracy and have always been vocal about his beliefs. Abujee’s family members were in the hospital but he was not able to speak with them. Although a prominent businessman, he is most famous in Maldives as a football coach of Victory Sports Club. He was a very healthy and fit man but he looked weak and frail today, according to eye witnesses.

DO informants in Police confirm that a handful of detainees are brought to hospital in Male’ for medication daily. This is clear evidence that these innocent reformists have been severely beaten up. One wonders how long Gayyoom can continue his terrorist activities. He is terrorising the people of Maldives.

Abujee is the uncle of Mohamed Nasheed (Anni), who is a founding member of Maldivian Democratic Party.

 World Tourism Day
JOINT MESSAGE FROM THE WTO SECRETARY GENERAL AND THE IOC PRESIDENT
FOR WORLD TOURISM DAY 2004

Both are powerful forces for development, stimulating investment in infrastructure projects such as airports, roads, stadiums, sporting complexes, hotels and restaurants—projects that can be enjoyed by the local population, as well as visitors who come to use them. And once the infrastructure is in place, these two mutually beneficial industries of tourism and sport become the motor for sustainable economic growth, the creation of employment and generation of revenues.
But at the same time, they are activities that bring people together and help forge strong personal relationships. In this way they are making the world a smaller place—contributing to greater understanding among cultures, greater tolerance and, ultimately, to world peace.

Hon. Qasim recovering well

Male' - 16:00 - Reliable sources confirm that Qasim is recovering well and has been allowed to walk around the restricted ward. Also, his family members have been allowed to see him. Police is recording all conversations in the room. A special colour pass has been issued to allow entry to the ward. We wish Qasim a quick and full recovery. The authorities must not take him back to prison as he is obviously not able to stand the conditions of solitary confinement. Gayyoom should show some compassion to Qasim who is a much respected figure in the Maldives. However, despite the pleas of thousands of Maldivians, Qasim is expected to be transferred to jail tomorrow. Commissioner of Police Adam Zahir is running the show and has been given a freehand.

 Breaking News
Special Majlis Memember Hon. Mohamed Thoriq detained in Police

Male' - 13:45 - Informants in Police report that Hon. Thoriq has been detained in Police for questioning regarding 12/13th August demonstration. He will also be questioned about who funded his campaign and whether Qasim Ibrahim supported him financially during the campaign.

This further explains Gayyoom's moves as he has detained 13 out of 23 members who walked out in protest on 19th July. These members will obviously create an obstacle for him to conduct his affairs in the parliament. Hon. Thorig is a Special Majlis Member for Noonu Atoll.

Police Raid on Sun Island Resort whilst the Owner Qasim remains in critical condition

Male' - Police raids Sun Island. Reportedly they were looking for financial documents and the computer of the Chief Cashier who was also arrested on 13th August (Black Friday). The Maldivian Police appears to be following a trail to find out who is funding the overseas operations as well as the campaigns of the parliamentary election for the Constitutional Assembly. Hon. Qasim Ibrahim, who is still in hospital, is know for his contributions to many parliamentary candidates as they write to him for that. He even sponsored Male' members Hon. Ilyas Ibrahim and funded others in previous elections. Since the protest by members of the majlison 19th July this year Gayyoom is paranoid and worried about the consequences of having credible opponents in the parliament which will hinder his illicit operations in the Parliament. His brother Abdulla Hameed was sacked from the post of Speaker earlier this month due to pressure from the Public. However, sceptics say that Gayyoom is grooming him for the post of Speaker of the Special Majlis, the Constitutional Assembly.

THE DREAM

By the strength of our common endeavour, to achieve what we cannot do alone, to grant each of us the power to realize our full potential, and the means to create for this and future generations a community in which power, wealth and opportunity are in the hands of the many not the few, where the respect we receive reflect the duties we owe, so that freed from the tyranny of poverty, ignorance and fear, we could live together in spirit of solidarity tolerance and respect.
