New
earthquake warning for Sumatra region
LONDON (Reuters) - The second earthquake in South Asia
in three months increased stress on fault lines in the
region, making it vulnerable to another rupture and a
tsunami, scientists said Wednesday. "We're concerned
about a large earthquake and there is a strong
probability that if it happens, it will generate a
tsunami," Professor John McCloskey of the University of
Ulster told Reuters.

"Today

June: World Blood Donor Day - Anyone can save a life
Geneva
— Thanks to the millions of people who give blood safely
and anonymously, thousands of lives are saved every
day. But the chances of receiving a safe transfusion —
or any transfusion at all — vary enormously from country
to country. Some 60% of global blood supplies goes to
18% of the world's people, leaving 82% of the global
population inadequately covered.

Blood,
Safety and Donation
The chance of receiving a safe transfusion if you need
one varies enormously from one country to another,
depending largely on whether there is a good, safe blood
donor programme in place. Some 60% of the global blood
supply goes to 18% of the world's population. There is a
serious disparity between countries when it comes to
both the availability and safety of blood.

Gayyoom's
brother Yameen to meet STO senior staff this afternoon
Male' - Confirmed reports say that Gayyoom's brother
Yameen is to meet the senior staff of State Trade
Organization Plc this at 5pm today in an attempt to
convince them to join the his brother's party. He has
held similar meetings with State Electric Company Stelco
as well but reports say that many have no confidence in
the party chaired and founded by the most ruthless
dictator the country has ever seen.
If played by the rule, Gayyoom grip on power is expected
to diminish quite exponentially over the next 3 months
and many expect him to resign.
Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is expected to form the
next government unless Gayyoom abuses his power. Senior
members of the MDP have already called for his
resignation including Councilor Ibrahim Hussain Zaki in
an address to the party assembly last week.

Friday
prayers at the Islamic Centre, an opportunity for The
Great Leader Gayyoom to promote his party
Today I had the good luck to attend Friday Prayers with
The Great Leader. We arrived together. He, in his
motorcade. Me, on foot. Five minutes before the Great
Leader’s arrival, a couple of safari suit clad gentlemen
arrived and cleared an area where the Holy Shoes were to
be placed. Shoes and sandals of the Ordinary Folk who
were inside the Islamic Centre were swept away, in no
apparent order. Never mind that some Ordinary Folk had
to walk home barefoot because their foot ware were
missing.

On
9th June 2004 Gayyoom his infamous Reform Speech... a
year on, what has he delivered and what does he intend
to do?
Apart from separating the police and the army and
allowing parties to register (not yet) he has done
nothing to deliver what he said in his speech yet his
poodles like Dr. Shaheed say to the world "He has always
delivered on his promises". We are the readers to
refresh their memories and decide for yourselves if he
has delivered any promises at all. If anything, Maldives
has experienced more oppression since his speech. His
intention to remain in power no matter what was clearly
laid out by the actions of his police force on 13th
August 2004 now known as Black Friday. Following
are some of the articles that we published in the
aftermath of his 9th June 2004 speech. Refresh your
memories and ask yourselves, is this evil dictator
capable of running our nation? It is a straight forward
answer, NO. Let us all renew the call for his
resignation.

A
Legacy Lost in Excellence - Best Public Relations Event
... and the Gold goes to Gayyoom of the Maldives
Mr. Gayyoom, I thank you personally for taking the first
step towards the long-awaited goals of Democratisation
and Justice by publicly declaring the reformist movement
(albeit the authenticity of it lies with someone else).
We assure you that the next step that we require you to
take towards that goal would not be any difficult than
the first. Please, Mr. Gayyoom, we have given you 26
years to prove your worth. One thing we would not forget
to tell our grandchildren about you from our common
History is that the Title "His Excellency" you have been
attached to for the duration of your term in office is a
grave affront to your characteristics. This would be the
most opportune time to end the false salutation.

Gayyoom should resign immediately
Ahmed
Moosa (Sappe'), Member of the General Council of Maldivian Democratic
Party (MDP) and Editor in chief of Dhivehi Observer calls on Gayyoom to
resign immediately and let the people of Maldives to decide what comes
next.
Message by Ismail Sodiq
Reforms, too little too
late
According to the definition in MLD political manifesto, democracy is
defined as the government of the people, by the people and for the
people. Adult suffrage plays an important role in democracy. In the name
of forming a democratic government, different political parties throw
their hats into the election ring. Every party issues its own election
manifesto to influence the people in order to carry the laurels in the
ensuing election battle. Besides, different parties entice the voters
through election propaganda. Where educated people are in the majority
and political consciousness is adequate, it is not very difficult for
people to weigh the pros and cons of the manifesto of a particular party
and to ascertain what is in the best interests of the people. But as the
case in Maldives, where there is a dearth of education and political
consciousness, and where people fail to understand the reality of the
manifesto and are misled by wrong propaganda, by the incumbent
government, they cast their ballots in favor of an individual whose
ideals go contrary to the social interest and this is what is going to
happen in the Maldives. Consequently, parties that go against the
interests of the people are installed in power.

Gayyoom
desperate to win more supporters from Addu
Male'- A meeting of Gayyoom's MPP was held in
Dharubaaruge tonight aimed at attracting supporters from
Addu Atoll who obviously love to hate Gayyoom.
The meeting was headed by cabinet ministers from Addu,
Tourism Minister Luthfy and Attorney General Saeed both
of whom are from Addu Atoll. There were some 20 people
attending the meeting amongst them were Vimla Rasheed,
Cirix Shareef, Hazash Hameed and other boys of Yameen,
Gayyoom's loyal brother.
Both Dr. Luthfy and Dr. Saeed expressed their support
for Gayyoom's party saying that it was the only party
that could do anything for the people of Maldives. They
also said that they are going to publish some new
strategies tomorrow with regard to what the party can do
for the Maldives.
Dr. Saeed and Luthfy said that they both have a lot of
agendas to deal with the problems in Addu and used that
to promote their Boss's party, Maldives Peoples Party.

Gayyoom's brother Yameen forces Stelco and STO staff to

similar tricks in the outer Atolls and there are now

Godliness
is measurable only in terms of service to humanity
A civil right is an enforceable right
or privilege, which if interfered with by another gives
rise to an action for injury. Examples of civil rights
are freedom of speech, press, assembly, the right to
vote, freedom from involuntary servitude, and the right
to equality in public places. Discrimination occurs when
the civil rights of an individual are denied or
interfered with because of their membership in a
particular group or class. Statutes have been enacted to
prevent discrimination based on a person’s race, sex,
religion, age, and previous condition of servitude,
physical limitation, and national origin.
