Maumoon has done the ultimate...

By Nile - 4 July 2004

Since the time MDP started demanding for a party system the word “politics” has taken a dramatic stroll. People started to realise there is another way, people realised they have been asleep for too many years. Now, the words that come out of most Maldivians is “We need to change our system, we need to change our political leader (leader not leaders as for the moment there is still only one, The One).

True, we need to change our system to represent party system; more importantly we need to change the leader. We need to bring back credibility; trust, sympathy, accountability and we need to have a leader that we can believe in. Right, now the government has lost the ability to shape our future. After 26 years of telling cunning lies, governing by promises, and being drowned by corruption Maumoon Gayyoom has done the ultimate; destroyed a generations of Maldivian blood.

How did he plan this shrewd preparation to destroy our youth? He did it by turning a blind eye to people who smuggle in the drugs to the Maldives. Maldives is a small country; commodities government wants to ban are easily eradicated through out Maldives, for example fire crackers (which was banned after the incident of November 3rd 1988) But importation of drugs cannot be stopped by the police who march up and down the arrival terminals wearing ear phones and other fancy gadgets? Of course not, why? Because people who bring in most of the drugs are sons and daughters of people in high positions in the government, because they never go through the customs, nobody searches their bags and shuffle through personal belongings, nobody ever interrogate them. Do you honestly believe that Anbaree Abdul Sattar’s relatives ever have to go through the customs?  Please.

Why did he do this? The foundation of a country depends on its youth, so by destroying them he can be sure there will be no opposition from them. He has planned this all along so that the youth of Maldives will be too stoned to be involved in politics, so he can continue with his dictatorship. He could have helped them. It is the government’s responsibility to provide rehabilitation centres and escape routes to citizens who are addicted to drugs and other substances. But what did Maumoon do? Nothing!!! Why should he?  His presidential slogan is “you can do what ever you want as along as you don’t threaten my presidency”

Maumoon! You have to take the responsibility of thousands and thousands of children looting around in the Maldives. You are responsible for young people, who died because of drugs, and I pray that Allah will punish you for this; I pray that you will burn in hell for all you have done to the Maldives and its people.
