Dhoonidhoo Island Prison & Spa Resort Fully Booked; Free Holidays for Maldivians

After the events of September 2003, Gayyoom’s government announced new measures and standards for prison services in the Maldives. DO can confirm that the police interrogation which almost always accompanies torture is now conducted in Dhoonidhoo Island Prison, which is strictly under the National Security Service.

This is another of Gayyoom’s tricks to camouflage his activities and deceive the people of Maldives as well as the international community.

A senior police officer, who we obviously cannot name, said “that all interrogation are conducted under police control and torture techniques have if anything become harsher” He further added that the first question now asked is “are you trying to overthrow Maumoon? Who is behind this?” Gayyoom’s paranoia with his power is absolutely mind boggling. He wants 20 year old boys to confess that they want to become the President of Maldives; this, when the constitution clearly states that the candidate has to be 35 years of age. Now if this boy wanted to challenge Gayyoom, that would be after another 15 years by then Gayyoom will no doubt be behind bars for the crimes he has committed against the people of Maldives and continues to commit.

Bottom line is that no more torture in Maafushi Jail but things have gotten worse at Dhoonidhoo Island Prison and Spa Resort.

One thing Gayyoom should realise now is that the younger generation is fed up having to cover up his misdemeanours and are now willing to risk their jobs by informing us of what really goes on in his administration.

Being kept in a hole in the ground and beaten with sticks
Exposure to the exhaust fumes (healthy carbon mono oxide) of generators for 8 - 10 hours at a stretch
