Gayyoom forced to release more reformists
DO report - 29 October 2004
Several key members of the reform movement were released early this morning. They include Husnu Al Suood, attorney and brother of Dr. Munavvaru, Hussain Rasheed from Maafusheege house (Sangu) and brother-in-law of DO Chief Editor Ahmed Moosa (Sappe'), Firshan Zahir (nephew of Chief of Staff 22 Zahir; he received special treatment and he was kept in solitary confinement in Police Headquarters in Male' for 77 days in a larger 7 by 8 feet cell), and Ahmed Adam (Ammadey) owner of Hologram Photocopy Shop and brother of Abdul Rasheed who waved the famous banner demanding the resignation of Dictator Gayyoom at reform meetings this year. The families are celebrating late into the night.
The men were held in solitary confinement for 77 days without charge and after the lifting of the State of Emergency. It is believed they have been ordered to stay away from any public gathering and not to participate in any activity other than worshipping Gayyoom, the almighty.
Friends and family members say the men are in high spirits and Gayyoom must be kidding himself if he thinks that these individuals and their families are simply going to forget the treatment they received at the hands of Gayyoom's vicious security forces.
DO has confirmed that Gayyoom will continue to detain some key members such as I.C. (Rasheed), Ziyad, and other reformist members of the special constitutional majlis.
