Maldives
Mr. Gayyoom,
Below are some of the key actions that you are required to take, at the behest of the People, immediately and unconditionally, in consistency with the pledges you made in your speech on the 9th of June 2004.
1. You must immediately halt the illicit activities of Cabinet Ministers, especially your Brothers Hameed and Yameen and Senior Public Figures such as Atoll Chiefs and Island Chiefs from lobbying against the reforms you advocated; and from influencing the Legislative proceeding by lobbying, to appoint a Government minister to the chair of the Upper House Sessions
2. You must relieve your brothers Hameed and Yameen of all their duties and official capacities and submit them to a Court of Justice and report the proceedings under the supervision of a Parliamentary Oversight Committee.
3. Threats and Intimidation to apprehend Reformists must come to an end; there shall be no arbitrary arrests.
4. You must release all Prisoners of Conscience and Political Prisoners
(Whose names explicated herein are only a few of which the Dhivehi Observer has confirmed the status of: Fathimath Nisreen, Ibrahim Didi, Ibrahim Fareed, Mohamed Zaki, Naushad Waheed)5. You must lift the ban on dissident websites/media such as Dhivehi Observer and Maldives Culture amongst other independent web-press organisations.
6. You must cease your repeated equivocations to the International Community/Non-Governmental Organisations/ Media Corporations (including BBC), providing them with false postulations of having ratified the United Nations’ Declaration on Human Rights.
We will assess and report the situation to all Maldivians and the International Community on the degree of compliance, once these actions have been taken.
Respectfully,
signed
Ahmed Shafeeq Ibrahim Moosa
