Letter to Gayyoom from Mrs. Saadiq
Dhivehi Observer informant at the NSS passed on the following letter sent to Gayyoom in December 2000, which explains in detail the trauma and hardship her family had to face due to Mr. Saadiq's opposition to Gayyoom's government.
As revealed by Dhivehi Observer yesterday, Mr. Saadiq became a threat to Gayyoom's government and he was therefore defamed and locked.
This letter is clear evidence of the unlawful attempts by Gayyoom to assassinate Mr. Saadiq, which ended in the poisoning of his young daughter.
"As you may know my house was set ablaze, my car shot and my daughter poisoned by your government during the last 10 years and I have no alternative but to let the whole world know about these brutal actions and human rights violations by your country." writes Mrs. Saadiq.
The Editorial Team of Dhivehi Observer wishes to thank the informant for letting this issue to be released to the public domain.
His Excellency Maumoon A. Gayyoom,
President of the Republic of Maldives,
The President's Office,
Male,December 13, 2000
His Excellency,
I thank your Excellency and your government to let my husband Ismail Saadiq, after four and half years, to visit his sick child. Unfortunately, I was aware from the police officer Sgt. Aseeth escorting him that your administration was trying to take him back without allowing him to stay for my daughters' surgery and not to allow him to attend to his own medical requirements. I am also aware of your vicious police services and what they do to other Maldivians in similar cases from his own recorded confessions.
My husband was kidnapped on September 1, 2000, at a local hospital and was kept in hiding against his will or prior knowledge. During his arrest he sustained serious injuries and was in need of immediate medical attention. He was flown out of Bangkok and still recovering from his injuries and other serious and complicated surgeries he had to undergo immediately. We are surprised that his clothes have been found in a hotel room where Mr. Aseeth stayed after leaving my house. The clothes were severely stained by his blood with two stab wounds which my husband suffered during his attempt to escape from his arrest.
Meanwhile, I have learnt from his friends that his father was arrested and still detained within the perimeters of Male city. His property is auctioned without any consent from his legal children whom I am taking care of. I am appalled of this action by your government, as the authorities confiscated all his documents and refused access to any one of them, but on the other hand continued to prosecute and take over his property.
As the legal wife or soon his widow and the mother of his two Maldivian children, I urged your Excellency to immediately halt the court cases and protect his property until his children's lawyers can look into this.
I would also like to inform you that the authorities in Thailand had recovered documentary evidence to assassinate my husband funded and instructed by Mr. Mohamed Maniku of STO. According to the records Mr. Maniku owes my husband over Rf.1.3 million personally and US$ 1.4 million from STO to his companies. I have also received his clothes which is evidence of stabbing and torture by your agents. Mr. Maniku had attempted this also due to exposure of a video tape of him with a Thai prostitute and to refuse payment of large sums of money which he and STO under his management owes my husband and to his companies. My lawyers had also received information that his former partner Mr. Abdulla Nasheed is also involved as he took away over US$ 1.5 million in cash and goods after my husband was arrested and made up a fortune by himself under the disguise of his father. I urge your Excellency to recover this money for the sake of my children.
With the help of lawyers, we have also investigated the assassination attempt on my family during 1991 and the subsequent poisoning of my daughter by senior government officials. Mr. Jameel your foreign minister have clearly instructed my husband not to go behind Mr. Ali Maniku, your senior advisor, as in his words, "there is nothing you can gain from it instead you should concentrate on her medication now." We have this on record as evidence. I have hundreds of videos and audio tapes of various government officials including Mr. Jameel & Mr. Yameen who instructed him not to visit Maldives during 1989-1993 and their numerous comments with my husband and many others in your government. These video & audio tapes include several tapes of Mr. Jameel with Thai prostitutes and his several drinking & drug sessions. I intend to place them shortly on a website for the whole world to see and to confirm to you that his arrest and the allegations against my husband were untrue. I am also including copies of correspondence between IBU Bangkok and Dongwon & and other Korean companies seeking funds for your 1993 elections as requested by Mr. Jameel.
I have also a copy of an invoice which was sent to your office for the amount of US$ 8,000 for the amount IBU Bangkok had debited my husband for the services they rendered to Hon. Abdul Rasheed Hussain (while he was the Minister of Presidential Affairs) to stop the illegal activities of FPID. An audio tape of several conversations with Mr. Rasheed and my husband will also be included. I have also copies of invoices sent by my husband to your brother Mr. Yameen for the materials he supplied to build his house (Kaamineege) in Male. Parts of these invoices are still pending and I would urge you to request him to settle this immediately. An amount of US$ 2318 is still pending from Mr. Yameen.
I am also seeking compensation for my daughter and I would appreciate if you could let me know as to how I could claim this from your government. I intend to provide you the information and facts through a website shortly including the subsequent cover up by senior government officials.
As you may know my house was set ablaze, my car shot and my daughter poisoned by your government during the last 10 years and I have no alternative but to let the whole world know about these brutal actions and human rights violations by your country.
I am also including on the website several comments from various courts, police and from your security services, judiciary (audio tapes with video clips) from the top officials of your cabinet and many others as to how my husband was prosecuted and treated in Maldives.
I am also including several audio tapes of Mr. Ibrahim Maniku's conversation with many people in the ministry and senior officials of both the legislative and judiciary and also the elections commissioner and their comments quoting your Excellency several times. I am also including several other audio tapes of confessions of two women with Mr. Maniku had "inappropriate relationships" and video clips from prominent people in the local society, your security staff, your closest of so called friends and your own family members commenting why you have prosecuted my husband.
Unless I hear from you, positively to compensate these innocent children who had no part with my husband’s views or actions in the country, I will be appealing to the international community and all concerned with your government to show the real facts of human right violations, the allegations against my husband, suffering and huge losses to my family. May I also add that several western governments have shown great sympathy and confirmed their unlimited support to my husband after reviewing all these documents, tapes and other evidences to prove these human rights violations.
Respectful regards,
Mariyam Jumna Saadiq
