The passion of Maldivians

Below is a copy of a letter a group of Maldivians has sent to President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom. It has been slightly edited by Dhivehi Observer for clarity.

To: Mr. Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom

A humble suggestion that will calm your soul for the rest of your life.

If I were to suggest that you should change our government to an Absolute Monarchy, and then you call to the citizens as “My Slaves”, you would definitely consider this is as the best opinion or suggestion. Quite contrary to that, you have to swallow a bitter pill for your ailment.

On behalf of the majority of the citizens of the Maldives, I suggest you to resign from the post of the President, (head of state, chief executive officer of the government, commander in-chief of the army… etc.) within three months time. You don’t have to meddle with the Constitution because you are not a capable person to reform it. It seems a ridiculous idea from the point of your advisors and selfish colleagues but it will be good for the rest your life.

During your long era you have proved your incapability. The following are the facts that you have to swallow although the taste might be bitter:

· You have ruled our beloved country for more than 25 years, without giving freedom of expression, brainwashing the intellects with false ideas and depriving us of our democratic rights

· You have been spoiled and influenced by your very inhumane brother Abdullah Hameed; you could not avoid this satan because he had made you into a Demi-God, despite him exploiting our public fund to fulfil his dirty desires by contributing to his gang

· As a result of the selfish desire of your soul Allah has brought you down to the status of animals. (Asfala Saafileen)

· If you had wanted at least a small satisfaction from the peace of mind you could have followed the examples from Dr. Mahathir Mohamed and Nelson Mandela, alas, more than 25 years has passed. Still the greed of power is overtaking you

· Your greed for power has resulted in your abuse of our religion, Islam

· Your greed for power has forced good religious people to become hypocrites

· We are only 271, 000 in population, but still you have failed to centralize them to at least three regions. Instead, the wealth is being either devoured into your family members belly, brother-in-laws and few people who have made you as a demi-god, or wasted.

· You have been making false promises and statements in the name of Allah

· You couldn’t even follow our respected nation's Constitution

· The average standard of living of the Maldivians hasn’t improved because of the unjust distribution of national wealth.

· The defense of the Republic of Maldives is centralized to protect only yourself in this small island of Male’

· The youth of the country have been spoiled by the pre-planned druggist activities to maintain your power

· There were many in jailed who had used drugs imported through your brother Hameed’s diplomatic passport

· There are many youths, island and atoll chiefs, acquaintances that has been abused by the homosexual activities of your brother Hameed

If you resign and apologize to the public, they will not send you to the international court of justice. Instead they will try to send you to Makunudhoo, the same island where you had been sent by the ex-president Nasir for the punishment of your vulgar tongue, thus you could ask forgiveness from Allah.

But any leniancy for your brother Hameed, is out of the question! His punishment what the citizens suggest is “Allah Knows” better. We will not spoil our soil of your brother’s filth.

There is no good advice or ideas than this. If you believe… good for you….Maumoon.
