What has MATI done on record to improve the livelihood of common man?

17 October 2005

Dear Sir

What has MATI done on record to improve the livelihood of common man? What have they done as the apex organization representing tourism industry when tsunami hit Maldives? Where is the money they raised? Can't they build desalination plants in those islands which was affected? Can't they start a better institute for hotel industry and train Maldivians to work in the industry? Can't they employ more local people in the industry? Can't they give scholarships to students to study in the tourism /commerce abroad? Can't they be collectively working with the business community and share some business with them?

MATI is an elite organization and that is the very reason why people rightly brand them as mostly cronies of Gayyoom. Its better for them to be more human and stand for the rights of the common man. I would say as a responsible organization they should seriously look into the contents of the call of boycott by Friends of Maldives and take the human rights issue to the Dictator.

This is a golden opportunity to prove to the people of Maldives that they are a responsible and concerned organization who are really keen to establish just and harmony in the country. This will give them respect and dignity by the common people of Maldives.

Yours

Mr Common Man
