Letter to Editor

We hate Maumoon...

28 April 2005

Dear editor,

First of all, there is no doubt that you are doing a great job there. I am a Maldivian currently studying in Malaysia. I also would like tell something about how Maumoon is ruling the country.

In the last 27 years Maumoon did whatever, he can to keep the people of Maldives in ignorance. The main reason for this is undoubtedly to remain in power. However, since Maldivians have a great desire for education, parents spend almost all of their income for the education of their children. Therefore, our parents today have broken Maumoons' resistance to keep us in the dark. This is why today his people are questioning his way of ruling the country. Today we know that he is not capable as a leader.

Unlike the leaders in other country, He is hiding in his caves and then ruling the country by punishing us. There is no law in our country. It is
the when he says something, does something; he is above law, all our money belongs to him. When he wants he can take it away without the consent of anyone.  Its like our country is his own company. It was he who started differentiating Male' from other atolls people, despising them of their ignorance. Even in Maldivian dramas publicly he allowed to despise his own people. He as a leader should not have created those differences, but he should try to minimize it.

Regarding your article on Addu Gan, I fully agree with the article you published. Once he became the so-called president, his motive was to destroy Gan infrastructure and make bring down the life of Addu people. And today it seems that he won this.

In the last 25 years, what he called as the law is focused on protecting him and strengthening his power. The way he is ruling the country is hiding in his caves without being seen to the public unlike the leaders in other country. I am sure that he will not be able to give a prompt interview even and if he did, he will talk all rubbish, there will not be any gravity in it.

There are other issues I would like to tell but you know this is limitless.

We are very disappointed of him. We really hate him and anyone who has had an education will hate him because they will be above to see the big picture of what he is actually doing.

Ahmed
(disappointed Maldivian)
